بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيم
Praise
be to God the Creator of the world, the One Who exists without
beginning, without end, without location , without a "how" and Who does
not depend on time. Nothing resembles Him in anyway and He hears and
sees everything without organs. Whatever you imagine, God is different
from that. May the elevation in degree and preservation of his community
of what he fears for it, be granted to our master MuHammad Al-'Amin,
the Honest One, who called for following Islam, the religion of truth,
the religion of all the Prophets : of the First, Adam, to the last
MuHammad.
Physical Description of Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم
The
Prophet was not extremely tall, nor was he short. He had a white
complexion and black hair. The Prophet's hair was not straight rather it
was slightly curly and long down to his shoulders. His smell was nicer
than the pure musk itself. He had a clear forehead, long eyelashes,
broad shoulders and a firm stomach. The Prophet was fast in his walk,
and it was narrated that seeing his face one would think that the sun is
rising from it.
Allâh ta`âlâ says in the honorable Qour'ân about the Prophet Salla l-Lâhou alayhi wa sallam:
﴿ وإنَّكَ لَعَلَى خُلُقٍ عَظِيمٍ ﴾
Which means: « You certainly have the best of manners » [sôurat Al-Qalam 'âyah 4].
Al-Boukhâriyy
narrates from the Hadîth of `Â'ichah, about the description of the
Messenger of Allâh Salla l-Lâhou alayhi wa sallam:
« كانَ خُلُقُهُ القرءانَ »
Which means: the
one who wants to know the manners of the Prophet, let him recite the
Qur’ân and let him understand it. All good manners that Allâh orders in
the Qour’ân are among the manners of the Prophet Salla l-Lâhou alayhi wa
sallam.
According
to `Â'ichah raDia l-Lâhou `anhâ, when she was questioned about the
behaviors of the Messenger Salla l-Lâhou alayhi wa sallam, she said: « He
was not vulgar and was neither of those who seek vulgarity, nor of
those who shout in the markets. He was not one of those who respond to
bad behavior through bad behavior. On the contrary, he forgive and
excuse ».
The Messenger of Allâh Salla l-Lâhou alayhi wa sallam said:
« مَا بعث اللهُ نبيًّا إلاّ حَسَنَ الوجهِ حسنَ الصوت و إنَّ نبيَّكُم أحسنُهُم وجها و أحسنُهم صَوتا »
Which means: « God
sent the Prophets, all with a beautiful face and a beautiful voice and
certainly your Prophet has the most beautiful face and the most
beautiful voice ». [narrated by at-tirmîdhiyy].
Our Prophet Salla l-Lâhou alayhi wa sallam was the one who had the most beautiful characters and the most beautiful aspects.
Al-Barâ' Ibnou Azib said in the description of the Messager of Allâh Salla l-Lâhou alayhi wa sallam: « The Messenger of Allâh Salla l-Lâhou alayhi wa sallam had the most beautiful face and the best of manners ».
About the description of the Prophet alayhi S-Salâtou wa s-salâm, it was narrated in the books of Hadîth: « He
was of average height, he was not short, he was rather tall, he had
broad shoulders, he was of a white color tinged with redness. His face
was bright ».
Al-Bayhaqiyy and AT-Tabarâniyy narrated from Abôu Oubaydah son of MouHammad son of Ammâr son of Yâçir that he said: « I
said to Ar-Roubay` daughter of Mou`awwidh: Describe to me the Messenger
of Allâh Salla l-Lâhou alayhi wa sallam, she replied : If you saw him,
you would say the sun rising ».
At-Tirmidhiyy as well as AHmad narrated from Abôu Hourayrah raDia l-Lâhou anhou, that he said: « I’ve
never seen anything more beautiful that the Prophet Salla l-Lâhou
alayhi wa sallam, it’s as if the sun was moving around his face ».
The
Prophet Salla l-Lâhu `alayhi wa sallam had fine eyebrows, not thick at
all ; he had big eyes and eyelashes provided. His palms and soles were
not thin, his forearms were long, and his belly, flat, did not extend
beyond the level of his chest. His voice was loud, there was no
weakness. In the whites of his eyes, there were fine red lines
Abôu Hourayrah, from whom we get the above description added:
« I have never seen anyone like him, neither before him nor after him ».
His
nose was thin and high, his forehead was broad and flat. The hair of
Prophet Salla l-Lâhu alayhi wa sallam was very black, he had barely
twenty white hair and all the rest of his hair had kept its original
black color. His hair was coming to his shoulder and when he cut it off,
it would reach to around ears.
The
Prophet Salla l-Lâhu alayhi wa sallam had the particularity of having a
very good smell, whether scented or not. His sweat smelled better than
musk. According to Anas, when the Prophet passed through the streets of
Madinah, there was the smell of musk, so it was said that the prophet
passed by.
The Description of Prophet Muhammad by Umm Ma`bad
In his Book, "`Uyunul-Athar," Ibn Sayyidin-Nas mentioned: While immigrating to Madinah, Prophet
Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم was accompanied by Abu Bakr, `Amir Ibn Fuhayrah, the slave of Abu Bakr, and the son of Urayqit, who guided them on their way.
They
passed by Umm Ma`bad from the tribe of Khuza`ah, who did not know them.
The Prophet said to her: ‘O Umm Ma`bad, do you have milk?’ She said:
‘No, by Allâh.’ He then saw a female sheep at the end of the house and
asked her about it. She said that it was an old sheep and did not
produce milk anymore. With the permission of Umm Ma`bad, the Prophet
passed his hand over the back and udder of the sheep. Then he asked for a
container. He milked the sheep and filled the container. Then he gave
the milk to his Companions to drink. He milked the sheep again to fill
the container for Umm Ma`bad and he left.
Later,
upon his return, Umm Ma^bad's husband asked her: O Umm Ma`bad, What is
this milk when there is no milking sheep in the house and the rest of
the sheep were away? She said: ‘No, by Allâh. However, there passed by
us:
1. A man with obvious beauty and cleanliness,
2. a glowing countenance,
3. and a good appearance/disposition;
4. with no bulging stomach disgracing him,
5. or a small head disparaging him;
6. is overtly handsome
7. and wholly beautiful;
8. his eyes are wide and very white and black
9. and eyelashes are long;
10. whose voice is devoid of hoarseness,
11. neck is long,
12. and beard is full ;
13. the white part of whose eyes is extremely white, and the black part of whose eyes is extremely black,
14. as if his eyelids have kohl naturally;
15. whose eyebrows arch longitudinally and thinly
16. (as if they) meet;
17. who has an extremely black hair;
18. who is stately when silent
19. and is gorgeous when speaking;
20. who is the most beautiful and striking man from far and the best and most beautiful from close;
21. whose speech is sweet, clear, and decisive,
22. neither vaguely short, nor boringly and pointlessly long;
23. whose words flow forth like a perfect string of pearls;
24. of medium height
25. that neither elicits contempt to avert him for shortness, nor aversion to him for excessive tallness;
26. who is a branch between two branches ; he is the most radiant of the three and the most well-respected;
27.
whose companions surround him; when he speaks they listen attentively
to his speech, and when he commands they vie with each other to fulfill
his commands.
28. who is well served and attended,
29. who is neither a scowler
30. nor a prattler.
